In 2017-2020 our Project organised four regional hackathons for civil society actors and IT professionals from the Eastern Partnership countries – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. We summarized our experience in organising the annual EaP Civil Society Hackathons and complemented it with some useful ideas suggested by our hackathon mentors, participants and the hackathon community around the world – and prepared a handbook that we believe will help current and future hackathon organisers in planning and delivering their events.
‘Hacking with Civil Society: A Guide for Hackathon Organisers’ covers the key aspects of organising a hackathon for and with civil society activists, keeping in mind online and offline formats and referring to a specific format when it requires an utterly different implementation approach. It starts with the pre-hackathon research as the groundbreaking stage of any hackathon planning process, and leads you through every stage of a hackathon lifecycle, from the concept development to the key post-hackathon activities.
