2022 Solidarity Fellowships

At the beginning of April 2022, we launched a call for Solidarity Fellowships to support civil society activists and civically minded women and men who demonstrate a deep commitment to leading a civil response to the war in Ukraine as part of the emergency support under the theme of #StandWithUkraine.

The call closed on the 30th of June 2022. In total 76 applications were received from the region and 25 applicants were selected for the fellowship. To-date the fellowship alumni network has 131 members from the 6 countries of the EaP.

The EU-funded EaP Civil Society Facility Project has administered the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Fellowship programme since 2017. To-date, with a new cohort of Fellows selected, the Fellowship alumni has a total of 131 Fellows from across the six countries of the EaP. Details about the Fellows 2017-2020 and their activities.

LIVE: strong voices of IDPs in Ukraine to support the country and save lives

Fellowship Summary: The Fellowship is contributing to empowering, documenting, and sharing the stories of IDPs in Ukraine through annotated self-portrait photos. Online and offline displays (including in Germany) aim to give a voice to IDPs in Europe and to assist in connecting CSOs willing to support the IDPs.

uLocal: IDPs assistance platform for legal and psychological support

Fellowship Summary: Development of a digital platform that will facilitate IDPs and those willing to offer assistance to IDPs (in terms of psychological support, legal counselling, and other services) to post requests and opportunities, enabling a volunteer-based matching of services with demands of IDPs.

Fellowship Summary: Assisting Ukrainian refugees in Tbilisi through provision of educational and therapeutic programmes to school-age children, and supporting their parents to network and identify assistance for integration.

Fellowship Summary: The project will provide local civic leaders and activists in Kyiv with tools for mobilizing community and developing local development plans which support social cohesion and integration.

Fellowship Summary: The Fellow will contribute to mitigating misinformation through joint training activities with Georgian and Ukrainian journalists, development of a module for media and CSOs, and broadcasting podcasts.

Fellowship Summary: Building capacity of local stakeholders for ‘cleaning’ and accessing data on waste management for post-war rehabilitation of Ukraine.

Fellowship Summary: Developing and rolling-out a fundraising capacity building programme for CSOs and volunteers in the Vinnytsia oblast for the implementation of projects and volunteer initiatives.

Fellowship Summary: Leading a Working Group, with CSOs and local authorities, to develop a Roadmap of assistance and integration for IDPs in Uzhhorod, and delivering a series of training activities to assist selected IDPs with developing social entrepreneurship skills.

Fellowship Summary: Supporting a network of CSOs/initiative groups with capacity building for humanitarian assistance projects and first aid.

Bomb Shelter: Is It Possible to Survive?

Fellowship Summary: Using ‘verbatim’ theatre methods to document and create a play (‘Bomb Shelter’) based on testimonies of victims of war. The Fellow, an experienced director, intends to work with IDP actors and amateurs to stage a production of the play in Odessa and use video for promotion to a wider audience.

Fellowship Summary: Building capacity within a cohort of 100 students across a network of 7 universities for cyber-security and mitigation of fake news through a series of online trainings and follow-up support.

Rules of documentation of war crimes: video lectures 

Fellowship Summary: The Fellow will work with legal advisers to produce a series of videos to help raise awareness and educate activists interested to document war crimes. The videos will inform on methods, legal requirements, and security issues.

Fellowship Summary: Raising awareness among civil society representatives, professional and future ecologists, environmental law specialists, public activists, representatives of city and state authorities working in the environmental field about the impact of military aggression on the environment, with a focus on the Holosiivskyi National Park.

Quality standards of volunteer work to help the elderly

Fellowship Summary: Develop and introduce a set of quality standards for volunteers working with elderly, and specifically vulnerable IDP`s. A group of volunteers (40) will be mobilised and trained following a specific training package on the ‘standards’. The volunteers will also receive on-the-job coaching and the Fellow will promote the ‘standards’ and the volunteers’ efforts,

Fellowship Summary: Strengthening and expanding an online platform providing legal advice to Ukrainian refugees, and building a network of legal aid support organisations in EU for Ukrainians.

Fellowship Summary: The Fellowship objective is to create an informational campaign and a Telegram ‘bot’ that will help mobilize citizens willing to provide individual assistance to IDPs and match them with IDPs requesting aid.

Documenting testimonies of IDPs in the Ivano-Frankivsk region regarding war crimes

Fellowship Summary: The Fellow will use his legal background and cooperation with local officials to interview IDPs and document their war experiences and provide legal aid. He will be supported by other volunteers, who he will train and advise.

Empowering Ukrainian Youngers for EU Integration and Educational Opportunities

Fellowship Summary: Building bridges among Georgian and Ukrainian youth to promote cooperation and campaign for educational opportunities.  Online events will explain exchange programmes and how to mobilize funds, with follow-up mentoring and offline meetings.  The European University Institute representatives and researchers will contribute guidance notes.

Fellowship Summary: Mapping needs and advocating to support organisations of vulnerable groups of Ukrainian refugees, with specific focus on Roma, in Moldova.

HOMECOMING: how Ukrainian refugees and IDPs can help their communities to change for the better

Fellowship Summary: Researching opinions from IDPs and refugees about aspects of their temporary host communities that they would advocate could guide change in the home communities in Ukraine. The research will lead to the promotion of a report on new policies for local development in post-war communities.

The street I need

Fellowship Summary: Supporting teenagers and young people to tell their story through the prism of short films about the place where they live in Ukraine and the impact of war on their lives. Video stories will be produced and broadcast on social media to youth in Europe and Ukraine, and a moderated discussion event to engage with partners in Europe will be organised.
