CitizenLab 2017 Hackathon to Support Innovative Civic Ideas through Digital Solutions

#EaP
24/11/2017

On 25-27 November 2017, the Prague Civil Society Centre and the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Facility will hold the CitizenLab Hackathon to support and develop innovative civic ideas in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Over 30 civil society activists, designers and IT experts from Eastern Europe and Central Asia will gather in Kyiv for three days to create prototype tools and applications to empower digital participation of citizens in the decision-making process, on topics such as smart cities, participatory budgets, environmental monitoring, urban development and public sector transparency. Expert speakers from activism, technology, data journalism and marketing will provide intense masterclasses for all participants and offer guidance on how to design their products.

The intensive three days of project research, design and creation will culminate in a presentation of projects on Monday, 27 November 2017, where the 11 teams will pitch their prototype product, application or tool, and compete to secure mini-grants to develop their idea.

The objective of the CitizenLab Hackathon is to empower digital participation of civil society in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, to improve transparency of public institutions and to enable broader citizen involvement in decision making processes. The Hackathon will also contribute to sharing good local e-Democracy practices between civil society activists, will help building professional relations between civil society activists and IT experts, and will promote and strengthen cross-border cooperation. The event is organised by the Prague Civil Society Centre with the financial support of the European Union through its Eastern Partnership Civil Society Facility.
