Report on Civil Society Coalitions in Armenia: Available for Downloading!

27/05/2024

Our latest research report “Civil Society Coalitions in Armenia” delves into the complicated landscape of Armenian civil society, examining in particular: the Civil Society Coalitions’ (CSC) structures, functions, challenges, and impact. The author of the Report is Valentina Gevorgyan, a researcher of civil society, social and political developments in hybrid regimes, focusing on Armenia and the Eastern Partnership region.

Purpose of the Report:
The primary objective of this Report is to provide an understanding of the conditions, challenges and opportunities facing CSCs in Armenia. It discusses structural diversity, cultural issues, operational dynamics, and the sources of funding. This report stresses the critical role of Armenian CSCs in terms of exercising a healthy civil society sector, enhancing the effectiveness of reform monitoring practices, and helping the country move towards democratisation. The Report serves a valuable resource for policymakers, stakeholders, representatives of Armenian civil society, government institutions and the international donor community supporting civil society in Armenia. The Report may also be useful for civil society actors and experts in Eastern Partnership countries.

Key Findings:
The Report identifies key problems and challenges faced by CSCs. To achieve a successful coalitional culture, it highlights the need for improved coordination, decision-making and strategic communication mechanisms (targeting public and youth), institutional healing and members’ value-base check mechanisms to improve the health of Coalitions’ intra- and inter-group dynamics. The Report elaborates on CSCs’ sustainability and success factors, and develops recommendations to civil society, international donor and academic communities.
